Yellow Stones

Part of a series of stone paintings made in Spring 2025 during a two-month trip
along the west coast of Scotland and the Inner- Hebrides.

Millicent's paintings often feature objects or symbols of human interference or
presence within the landscape and stones are one of the oldest examples
of this. The stones have always evoked a sense of mysticism and timelessness for the artist which translates to the paper when painting plein air. The paintings are created quickly and intuitively to capture fleeting moments within the changing landscape.

Yellow Stones is a monochromatic painting of the Machrie Moor Standing
Stones, using a limited pallet of yellows and small amounts of orange. These hues were used to capture the constant brightness and glow experienced on the many sunny spring days. Working monochromatically helps me to simplify the landscape, focusing on the
shapes and compositional structure of the painting.
