Andrew George creates quietly atmospheric landscape paintings. Using egg tempera he brings a delicate luminous quality to his work, playing beautifully with light and colour to produce dramatic scenes that evoke the feeling of real wilderness.

Andrew draws inspiration from the rugged landscapes around his home in the Mendip hills of North Somerset as well as Dorset’s Coastline and the hills of Scotland.

Andrew George is a Somerset base painter working with egg tempera. The landscape artist depicts artist A high realist style is characteristic of the work of artists who use egg tempera. This traditional medium requires application of small amounts of pigment at a time, building in layers of fine brush strokes. This traditional technique that goes back to renaissance painting, allows the artist to achieve intense depth of light and shadow and this can be seen in Andrews work.

Andrew's paintings are always finely detailed observations giving a real sense of place. His paintings find a wonderful balance between realism and impressionism. Each composition offers a viewpoints that naturally lead the eye across the piece creating a real sense of scale and celebrating the vast rugged landscapes he references.
