Lara Pain

Lara Pain is a textile artist and handweaver based in South East London. Her material-led practice combines a playful use of colour, texture and woven structure to create tactile woven forms. Responding to the built and found environment, she translates observed rhythms, surfaces and everyday details into textiles that explore connections between material, place and experience.

From fabric meterage and soft furnishings to large scale art installations, each piece is thoughtfully handwoven by Lara in her Deptford studio. Drawing on the creative process, which involves close collaboration with clients and a keen eye for site-responsive narrative, every outcome is wholly distinct.

Lara trained in Textile Design at Central Saint Martins (UAL). Shortly after graduating she was awarded the prestigious Clothworkers’ Company Award from the City of London, which provided the support to establish her own weaving studio. In 2023, she was named the UK’s Young Weaver of the Year by Heritage Crafts and the Royal Mint, recognising her significant contribution to the craft.
